Dead Island 2 rumors surface, get denied shortly after

IGN Germany ran a story earlier reporting that Yager Development was working closely with Deep Silver on the sequel to Dead Island. The report apparently came from a "reliable source" close to Yager.

Deep Silver was quick to respond to the claims, telling IGN that that it was not working with Yager. While the possibility of the two studios working together on a future project can't be ruled out, Deep Silver stated that there was currently nothing in the works from the two. Additionally, the company revealed that Dead Island 2 wasn't even in the works.

Deep Silver Development Director Guido Eickmeyer said the following:

We are neither working with Yager on Dead Island 2 nor do we have any contractual agreement with Yager about any project at this point. Yager and Deep Silver do have a very close relationship, based on personal and professional connections between the parties … However, we have neither something in place or in discussion between the parties that would explain such a news, nor do we have Dead Island 2 in concept or production with external partners

Dead Island 2 seems like something that should and will happen. The first Dead Island was pretty successful, delivering a fun zombie romp and achieving plenty of financial success. While a sequel may not be in the works as we speak, I think it's safe to say that it will happen somewhere down the road. Deep Silver, we're looking forward to it!
