Koei Tecmo has released a new trailer for the sixth entry into their cult fighting series. In the new trailer for Dead or Alive 6, we are being presented not only two veterans of the series into the cast but also get a glimpse of a new stage, together with a rather interesting environmental hazard.
There has been a steady stream of news about Dead or Alive 6 since the game has been formally unveiled at E3 this year. At the reveal we got a look at series front-runner Kasumi besides Helena, Zack and Ryu. It didn’t take long for another veteran to make their DoA 6 reveal with Rig. That also brought us the first entirely new character with Diego. You can check out their trailer here.
A new fighting game entry always has fans on the edge. How much will be improved? Who are the new fighters going to be? Will there be big changes to the gameplay mechanics? All these are valid for Dead or Alive 6 but a rather interesting question was also answered, unique to the franchise. What about the fanservice?
Dead or Alive has long become more than just a tight fighting game. The developers have long embraced visualizing their fighting characters in splendid detail. Maybe sometimes even too much. Ever evolving technological advances have made it possible to portray skin and body physics better than ever, which led to fascinating ads like this.
We are of course talking about the attention to detail especially with regard to female characters in the fighting game series. Bouncing breasts and sweaty, wet skin did at one point became even promotional material for the series. With the newest game, Yohei Shimbori, game designer of Dead or Alive, has decided to tone back the fanservice. It’s true, Kasumi and the other female fighters were all pretty adequately dressed with minimal “bounciness” so far.
Today’s new trailer shows that Dead or Alive 6 won’t totally betray expectations of its fanbase however, as we are witnessing a new environmental hazard in form of a giant tentacles which can grab our fighter in a newly unveiled stage Forbidden Fortune. We have to give credit to the developer however, as the tentacle attack is pretty nicely staged and feels a lot more action-packed rather than sexual fanservice.
Dead or Alive 6 is coming out for PC, PS4 and Xbox One in early 2019.
