Dead Rising 4 timer isn’t totally gone, changed due to Dead Rising 5, 6 and 7

Well that stinks

One of the main changes with this year's Dead Rising 4 is that the countdown timer is gone. Capcom removed it from the game and surprised a lot of people as it was a trait that Dead Rising was known for. Well, it hasn't been totally removed actually and will make a return at the end of the game.

Gamesindustry caught up with Joe Nickolls, the head of Capcom Vancouver, and asked him about the timer. "“The timer… some people don’t care about the timer, some people hate the fact that it’s not in the game, some people hated the timer and love the fact we’ve got rid of it. So what do we do? Well, we put the timer in multiplayer, and then put it back in towards the end of the game, where we think it matters,”

Personally, I don't like the timer at all and think it should have been removed totally, but I understand people's attachment to it after three games. Nickolls does too and wants to continue the Dead Rising franchise for a long time. In order to do that, you need to change things up from time to time and this resulted in the little twist with the timer.

“One of our goals is to really make a product that means we can make Dead Rising 5, 6, 7. That involves expanding and changing the franchise, and therefore sometimes we need to take risks. That means some people will be upset with what you did. The only way to truly tell if we made the right choices is to play the game.”

Dead Rising 4 launches next week on December 6th both on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC. It will be a year long exclusive prior to launching on PS4 next year.
