Dead Space 3 infinite resource exploit ‘not a glitch’ according to EA

Despite Dead Space 3’s polarizing reviews, one aspect of the game that reviewers and fans alike have commented on is how atrocious the in-game microtransactions are. These transactions aren’t required to build resources, but they’re hard to miss if you don’t play through the game in a certain manner. That being said, days after release it was reported that gamers had found a “glitch” that allowed players to farm infinite microtransactions. However, EA claims that the find is no glitch, so players won’t get penalized for exploiting the method, and on an even better chord, they have no intention of changing the “glitch” that isn’t so.

The process, which was brought to EA’s attention, was that players were looting infinite material from lockers, chests and enemies for crafting, rather than purchasing them. Normally, this would be terms for a patch, but EA’s PR rep Jino Talens noted that the transactions were optional and this “glitch” was planned in development.

"The resource-earning mechanic in Dead Space 3 is not a glitch," Talens said. "We have no plans to issue a patch to change this aspect of the game. We encourage players to explore the game and discover the areas where resources respawn for free. We've deliberately designed Dead Space 3 to allow players to harvest resources by playing through the game. For those that wish to accumulate upgrades instantly, we have enabled an optional system for them to buy the resources at a minimal cost ($1-$3)."

We reviewed Dead Space 3 last week, calling it a “decent game, [though] it’s not of the same caliber as the second game or certainly the original,” which awarded a 6.0 “Average” rating.
