Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut finally has its PS3 release date. It is due out on April 30, game writer and director Hidetaka 'Swery' Suehiro told fans. Despite releasing nearly three years after the original Xbox 360 launch, Deadly Premontion was actually developed for the PS3 at the same time, he revealed.
"We were actually working on the PS3 version while we were developing the original Deadly Premonition, but wound up facing several difficulties that lead to an indefinite postponement on the PS3 version’s release," he explained. "And at the time, we very saddened to think that PS3 owners had ultimately lost the chance to play such a unique title like Deadly Premonition."
Now, three years later, PS3 owners are finally getting their chance to experience the open-world psychological horror game with a cult-like following. For those who never played the original Xbox 360 version, Deadly Premonition focuses on the story of FBI special agent Francis York Morgan as he investigates the murder of a young woman in the town of Greenvale. The game launched to mixed criticism with reviews praising its open-world nature and unusual story, but bashing its lackluster production value and spotty controls.
The Director's Cut looks to address the original's flaws with updated HD visuals, a reworked control system, and post-game DLC created by Hidetaka Suehiro. From a recent preview of the game, we believe Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut will fix the original issues, while still retaining its cult-like feel. However, we'll have to wait until April 30 to know for certain.
