Deadly Premonition is making its much anticipated debut on the PlayStation 3 next week, but early pre-orders indicate this game was wanted by more than just its cult following. Deadly Premonition first released on Xbox 360 three years ago where it received mixed reviews for its intriguing story and open world nonlinear gameplay, but poor technical implementation. As a result, it has become one of the more divisive games in the industry.
Nevertheless, it looks like PS3 owners are anxious to get their hands on it as publisher Rising Star Games revealed Deadly Premonition is the most pre-ordered game in the company's history. In fact, the pre-order numbers have actually exceeded those of the Xbox 360 version by a "factor of ten."
“The game has easily surpassed our expectations for day one orders,” Rising Star’s product marketing manager Yen Hau told MCV.
“It was the first time we have offered such a diverse pre-order scheme of DLC content for each retailer, in all territories, and it has been an unparalleled success for us.
“It further demonstrates that the cult status we built up for the game two years ago is still going strong and I’m absolutely overjoyed that PS3 owners can finally experience this gaming gem.”
PlayStation 3 owners are technically getting The Director's Cut version which looks to address the flaws of the original Xbox 360 version with updated HD visuals, a reworked control system, and post-game DLC created by Hidetaka Suehiro. Look out for the game's release on April 30.
