Death Stranding is ‘very close’ to going into full production

Hideo Kojima sure knows how to make an entrance. But now that the lights have gone down on the big E3 2016 stage, Kojima and company find themselves with a big job ahead. Death Stranding needs to fulfill the promise it oozes with, namely due to the fact that the Kojima name is attached to it. In speaking with Eurogamer, Kojima indicated that he and his team are close to moving Death Stranding into full production.

He said:

“We are getting to a very good point about how we are feeling about the visuals so we are very close to making a decision on the game engine. And once that is decided we will be in full production.”

On the subject of the game engine, Kojima did say that the E3 trailer was created using one of two candidates that he and his team are currently weighing. He also mentioned that everything we saw in the trailer will be in the final game.

“One thing I really want to tell people is the teaser is running in real-time…We made it in two and half months – and generally, teasers are not made by the development team. A lot of trailers are outsourced – that happens pretty often – but we don’t like to do that….What you see will be in the game.”
If this were any other game developer, it’s debatable whether anyone would even like a game about a naked dude who may or may not have fallen through a black hole with a bunch of dead marine life strewn about on a beach. But it’s not just any developer, it’s Hideo Kojima. Literally, anything that has his name on it instantly turns to gold.
By all accounts, it seems like Death Stranding is not close and nor should it be. Let’s just hope that Kojima has another instant classic up his sleeve.
