Deathsmiles 2X Will Be On Demand Exclusive in US

Japanese shooter house Cave has struck a unique arrangement with Microsoft. The goal is to provide more games for the import audience in the US. The first fruit of the arrangement will be bullet hell shooter Deathsmiles 2X.

The news comes courtesy of Siliconera, who reports that Deathsmiles 2X will be released in the US as a Games on Demand title. The game will retain its Japanese text, so keep that in mind if you’re not fluent or willing to go into the game blind.

The game will cost $29.99 and be available on May 17. Note the lack of point conversion–this import will be a credit card-only purchase.

The game is the first Games on Demand title to be exclusive to the service. Cave says the experiment may lead to even more shooters in the future.

I for one welcome this with open arms. I just hope it doesn’t become a shortcut for developers who would otherwise do a proper English translation.
