After massive media attention leading up and during the launch period, things got a lot calmer for Bethesda’s latest multiplayer spin-off Fallout 76. While most of that talk was negative, the publisher is trying to win over the large Fallout fanbase by supporting the game post-launch and listening to customer feedback.
As promised earlier by Bethesda, the two December updates for Fallout 76 aim to alleviate some of the more easily fixable issues players have been moaning about ever since the game’s launch. PC gamers should be delighted that platform standard features like adjustable field-of-view and 21:9 ultra-widescreen support is now implemented, making the game – at least on a technical level – much more appealing for the PC crowd.
Of course, the latest December update brings the goods across all platforms. As such, console and PC players will have a much easier time constructing and maintaining their camps. Object obstructions are now a thing of a past while building and returning to a server now shows whether your campsite has been taken by another player, so you can choose another “free” server to hop in and find your camp just the way you left it.
Other highlights of the update is a much improved push-to-talk chat system. No longer will players unwantedly hear each other during the game. For late-game players, the ability to either respecc one S.P.E.C.I.A.L. point or unlock a new perk card is a welcome addition.
There are naturally a ton more minor changes, bug fixes and improvements to Fallout 76 included in the new update which you can check out in the full patch notes on the blog post here. While welcoming to see steady updates to the game, we’re not sure when and if Bethesda plans to improve big points of criticism which are inherently more tricky, such as the quest designs, world and more.
Thankfully, Bethesda has also done away with massive patch sizes and this new update weighs in at a much more acceptable 3GB on PC and 5GB on consoles.
