Del Toro wants Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams for Pacific Rim 2

At this point, all we really know about Pacific Rim 2 is that it’s happening and that Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi will be back. The film’s shooting has already been pushed back into next year and del Toro is still tinkering with the script. And while for plenty of fans the fact that the 2012 love letter to Japan is getting a sequel is enough to make them show up, director Guillermo del Toro is feeding people tid bits to stoke the excitement fire.

Via Twitter del Toro let it drop that he had lunch with Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, with the hopes of recruiting her for the Pacific Rim sequel. Williams is a breakout from the HBO Sunday night mainstay where she plays the tough but beleaguered (aren’t they all?) younger daughter of the Stark clan. The idea of tossing her in a Jaeger and riffing off Kikuchi’s Mako Mori is a pretty exciting idea.

At the end of the day who doesn’t want to see a cast of badasses piloting badass giant robots and beating up badass monsters. It sounds pretty badass.

Pacific Rim 2 is slatted to begin principle filming next year.
