When Burger King proposed to unite forces with McDonald's to create the McWhopper, a burger that would combine the two fast food chain's biggest burgers to celebrate one day of peace, McDonald's dropped the ball. They basically outright blew off Burger King's proposal to donate all the proceeds from the McWhoppers sales to charity.
When Denny's heard about McDonald's spurning Burger King, they swooped in to pick up the pieces of the broken relationship. Hopefully, Burger King is ready for a rebound.
The diner, best known for their breakfasts (I didn't even know they had burgers), is proposing to combine their 880 calorie Bacon Slamburger (a hamburger topped with hash browns, a cooked-to-order egg, bacon and pepper jack queso) with the iconic Whopper.
"We can name it the Whamper, the Slamopper, The WhopaSlam…Well, we can figure that out later," Denny's said in a full-page ad in USA TODAY and The New York Times. They even offered naming it The Slopper — Denny's don't look desparate.
The thing is, it's Denny's – not Taco Bell or Wendy's.
Burger King has been facing off against the red-headed clown that is McDonald's for years. Peace between the two just makes more sense. Wendy's would have a lot more pull than Denny's — Wendy's and Burger King could create the Whoppinator (Baconator + Whopper). Taco Bell and Burger King would make some pretty creative mixes, definitely something that would be found on the Fourthmeal menu.
Denny's, stop trying to make the peace burger happen.
