Despite Star Wars craze, the Darth Maul game won’t be returning to development

Last year we got a look at concept art for the cancelled Darth Maul game that was under development by Red Fly Studio and back in October we got our hopes back up for the game's release. The developer hinted that they were working on a demo for the Maul game on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in hopes of enticing EA with the game's mechanics.

Basically, Red Fly Studio was had still been developing the Darth Maul game since it had been cancelled and were hoping that the game would be awesome enough for EA to agree to publish the game for them

Unfortunately, EA isn't interested and the developers at  Red Fly Studio have moved on (for the most part).

"It really feels like [EA] has an exclusive party going on, and they're just not interested in talking about anyone else joining the party," said Red Fly Studio founder Dan Borth to GameInformer. "There's no special case scenario to where they would say, "Well, they worked on this with George Lucas for however long, and a lot of money has been put into this, let's take a look." There's none of that, which is all I kind of wanted. It's more like, "Nobody outside of EA is going to do stuff, end of story.”

When it came to the Darth Maul game Red Fly had created, neither EA or Lucasfilm seemed interested or even willing to comment on the game or the character. To Borth, it appears as though both companies are looking at the new Star Wars films and leaving behind enemies of the past.

"I think EA and Lucasfilm aren’t interested in Darth Maul," explained Borth. "They're moving forward, not backwards. More power to them."

Borth and his team have essentially given up on chasing the dream of a Darth Maul game, citing it as "stupid to keep barking up this tree." However, the Darth Maul game will live on in some way, Red Fly is working on a new game, Dawn of Fire, that utilizes some of the Darth Maul game's combat system.
