When Destiny 2 was revealed earlier this year, Bungie quietly revealed that the sequel won't run at 60 FPS on consoles. Fans were disappointed hear to that the shooter won't hit a smooth 60 FPS but Bungie claims that the game would suffer if they did make it 60 FPS.
Speaking to EDGE magazine, Bungie said that the game would be a significantly worse experience if it was at 60 FPS simply because they'd have to scale back on content.
It’s about the simulation of the Destiny world. Thirty AI at once, large open spaces, six players, sometimes with vehicles, and dropships coming in; that’s where we’re using the CPU.
Could we make a Destiny game that ran at 60 fps? Yes, but the space would be smaller, it would be less cooperative, and there’d be fewer monsters to shoot. That’s not the game we want to make.
First and foremost, we’re trying to make an incredible action game. We don’t feel we’ve been held back by the choices we’ve made about world simulation versus frame rate; in fact, we think we’re offering a player experience you can’t have elsewhere because of the choices we’re making.
But if frame rate is something that’s really important to you, there is a platform now where you can spend as much money as you want, to go as fast as you want.
So, if you want the most powerful version of Destiny 2 you're going to need to move over to PC. You'll be able to see just how glorious the PC version is later this month when the PC beta goes live, if you haven't already, you can pre-order Destiny 2 to secure a beta code on PC.
Destiny 2 releases on September 6th, 2017 for PS4 and Xbox One while the PC version won't release until October 24th, 2017.
