Destiny 2 dropping random rolls for weapons, but will have something else

Buh-bye grind.

Remember that whole thing in Destiny where would have you grinding for God Rolls on weapons? Well, it sounds like rolling for specific perks are out in Destiny 2. One of the Destiny developers explained that the weapons you pick up will have set perks.

"There aren't random rolls on weapons anymore. Better Devils is a Crucible hand cannon [in Destiny 2], and what it has on it is what it has on it. Period," said director Luke Smith in an interview with Mashable. "You can look at all the hand cannons now [for example] and track the data for everything."

Doing away with rolls allows the devs to do more to weapons when it comes to tuning.

"It's gonna give us more flexibility to do per-item tuning," Smith said. "[That's] something we haven't had before because of the way we were building the [first] game."

While random rolls are out, it appears as though the weapons will continue to have unique properties when they drop. Bungie has ideas for what those unique, but might not have time to implement them into the game.

"How can my second, third, and tenth Better Devils hand cannon be interesting? That's a question we should be asking and answering as quickly as we can," Smith said. "We have ideas. While I would like nothing more than to share those ideas with you, we're up against [a deadline]. I don't know if they'll make it for our Sept. 6 [release] date. But we have some ideas that we're pretty excited about."

Destiny 2 is set to launch September 8 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and for the first time in the franchise, it will launch on PC as well – but it will be delayed. As a pre-order bonus, Bungie will be giving players early access to the beta, but just like the PlayStation 4 exclusivity, no details were given.
