If gamers weren't already inclined to pick up Bungie's Destiny 2 for PS4 because of the already announced exclusive content, now it gets even better for PlayStation owners. Post release, but very shortly after, Bungie will update Destiny 2, for free, to support High Dynamic Range otherwise known as HDR.
HDR is a color mode that, if your monitor or TV supports it, offers a wider color gamut, making colors deeper and more saturated, while also making shadows and blacks much darker. Overall, when in HDR, images viewed on the TV are more dynamic and thus it looks better than a standard image, which can look washed out and flat in comparison, with blacks that aren't truly black but instead are a shade of dark gray. For many, HDR is a more impressive technology than seeing 4K, which simply means the image is sharper, but with HDR, the visuals on display are just more amazing watch. It's truly a technology that is better seen than described.
For gamers who are looking to purchase the PC version, HDR will be available launch, however, keep in mind it's also going to release a month later on October 24 and you'll need a monitor that supports HDR.
As for HDR support on the Xbox One S and X, both of which support HDR, Bungie hasn't made any statement.
Destiny 2 for the PS4 and XBox One will be available on September 6.
