Destiny 2 PC players report mass bans, Bungie responds

Destiny 2 launched on PC yesterday and it looks like something has gone wrong for a number of freshly banned players.

Prior to Destiny 2's launch, the game's beta made something clear – some third-party applications are not compatible with the game. Any third-party application that inserts code into the game client for Destiny 2 is incompatible with Destiny 2.

Bungie detailed the following applications to be incompatible with Destiny 2 on September 11th, 2017:

  • OBS
  • XSplit
  • Dxtory
  • Razer Cortex
  • Fraps
  • Discord
  • Mumble
  • EVGA Precision XOC
  • MSI Afterburner

While these applications are incompatible with Destiny 2, they should not be resulting in bans, but for some reason, players are reporting being banned for these reasons.A Bungie community manager has responded to the claimed saying:

"Third-party applications that aren’t compatible with Destiny 2 may cause the game to not run but won't result in a ban."

Another Bungie developer and PC Project Lead called reports of bans for applications "internet BS" when responding to an inquiry on the subject:

It's unknown what is causing the ban, but those that are being banned are using the 'incompatible applications.' It's possible that built-in anti-cheat measures are being turned on when the game's code is being altered by the third-party programs.

Bungie is reportedly investigating the matter.
