Destiny 2: PC version to get delayed launch; No dedicated servers on Xbox One, PS4, or PC

Yesterday it was unclear whether or not the PC version of Destiny 2 would be delayed, but a confirmation has come, as well as a bit of news on whether the game will feature dedicated servers (spoilers: it doesn't).

Unfortunately, there is no scheduled release date for Destiny 2's PC version and according to a statement from Bungie, obtained by GameInformer, the game will not release alongside the PS4 and Xbox One versions.

As far as the PC version of the game's development goes (Bungie has promised some big features for the game), PCGamer asked if Bungie themselves were working on it or if they outsourced it. The reply was confusing and a bit of a yes and a bit of a no:

"So we kind of have embarked on an interesting situation. We’re not outsourcing it. Instead, we’ve developed this true partnership with Vicarious Visions in Albany, New York. We look at them as an extended part of the dev team. There’s a group of folks there that we’re working with—I’m literally working with them every single day. There’s emails, there’s video conferencing, sometimes we’re out at V.V., sometimes they’re at Bungie. We’ve crafted a strong partnership with them. Bungie is leading the game; it is absolute a Bungie project. But the partnership we have with V.V. has been phenomenally successful. When you play the game, hopefully, it shows the quality of work that that team has done."

Another unfortunate note for Destiny 2 players goes beyond PC and to all platforms that Destiny 2 will be released on. In an interview with IGN, Bungie's Mark Noseworthy was questioned on whether there would be dedicated servers for the game and the answer was no, but this was his explanation as to why:

"We are not getting dedicated servers.

"It's just not an investment that we made for Destiny 2, like the uh… I understand there's certainly a desire for it. You know, the smaller team format, although it's one person bigger in the Trials case for sure here, in the smaller team format, in general, it's easier for us to find tighter matches. And we're also going to rechange the parameters for matchmaking, to refocus on connection quality instead of like Trials win matching. We're gonna like change the, we're going to change a bunch of parameters to focus on giving people a better network experience."

Summary: Delayed PC version (which is slightly outsourced) and no dedicated servers – just peer to peer, which means your computer (or someone else's in the group) acts as the host.
