Bungie's been pretty tight-lipped when it comes to details regarding the beta for Destiny. But thanks to a memo allegedly sent to GameStop managers, we now have a better idea for what's in store for us when the beta launches this week.
According to the memo, Destiny beta will include four story chapters, four competitive multiplayer maps, a cooperative Strike, and a "huge" world to explore. Previously, Bungie had been teasing players will experience a "diverse sampling of major activities" featured in the full game.
Meanwhile, Bungie has made it perfectly clear on its website that Destiny's beta is, first and foremost, a test. "The Destiny Beta is a test. Make no mistake. This isn’t some circus stunt. This is science – and you’re the lab rat," the developer wrote.
"We’d love to tell you that everything will go according to plan, but that wouldn’t be any fun. That wouldn’t teach us a thing. Even if the Beta is working perfectly, one of the alpha-geeks in the operations center is gonna kick it to see if it still works. Fortunately, we’ll be going to great lengths to keep you informed and keep you in the game."
Destiny's beta will open on PlayStation platforms this Thursday, July 17. Bungie will then open the beta up to Xbox gamers on July 23. The beta is scheduled to end for all platforms on July 27, presumably marking the last time you'll be able to play the game until its official launch on September 9 for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, and Xbox 360.
By the looks of it, the beta for Destiny is going to be pretty massive. Players can gain access to it in a number of ways, the easiest being pre-order. However, if you know someone who pre-ordered the game, then try to get on their good side because each pre-order includes two additional beta codes. If you don't have any friends, then we've got 25 codes to give away.
