Destiny community pays tribute to clan member who passed away

It's stories like this that prove how gaming goes beyond just a singular experience.

A Destiny clan called Dads of Destiny recently lost one of its members to cystic fibrosis. Joshua R. Stokell, better known to the Destiny-verse as TheSquashPhD, died this month following his life-long bout with the disease. He was 36 years old.

In honor of his memory, his clan put out a request via reddit asking the Destiny community to put together their own tributes to their fallen brother.

The response was truly spectacular.

More than 250 players responded with their own condolences and unique in-game salutes to Joshua. Dads of Destiny compiled the clips and put the tribute video together. It's very touching.

Joshua's bout with cystic fibrosis is also an amazing story in it of itself. He earned a PhD in Microbiology back in 2013 and was working as a Post-Doctoral Fellow, researching the genetic disorder that ailed him hoping to one day find a cure. Learn more about his story here.

From one guardian to another, we salute you Joshua.

Guardians out!
