Destiny Crucible matchmaking update coming tomorrow

New matchmaking settings go live tomorrow

Bungie is readying to release a new update to bring more changes to matchmaking for Destiny's Crucible. Unlike previous changes, which were quietly rolled out over the past few months, Bungie has been much more open this time around to avoid the same criticism.

The new matchmaking settings will "assign more emphasis to connection quality," and are being made "in an effort to reduce lag," Bungie says. However, there will still be "some consideration given to matching you with worthy adversaries," the developer assures.

The new settings will be implemented with this week's Iron Banner event (now live), but won't go live until tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 27th, at 10:00am PST (1:00pm EST). This 24-hour gap will allow Bungie to analyze and compare two sets of data. Bungie is also looking for your feedback on the changes.

Bungie will analyze the data and monitor the state of the Crucible for stability and improvement, and if all goes well, the changes will be deployed to more Crucible playlists over time. Bungie assures you'll be notified of any further changes.

Bungie's providing notice of the changes in advance is likely welcomed by much of the Destiny community which was caught offguard when it was revealed last week that Bungie had previously made matchmaking changes back in late 2015. Acknowleding the changes, Bungie promised in last week's blog post to be "more transparent" about changes when they are made. This is a good start.
