Destiny expansions highlight this week’s Xbox Deals with Gold

With The Taken King coming in September, Microsoft is discounting Destiny's Expansion Pass, as well as both individual expansions (House of Wolves and The Dark Below), as part of this week's Deals with Gold.

From now through July 13th, Xbox LIVE Gold members can save 25% on the Expansion Pass, or 25% on each expansion separately.

Here's the thing, though. I'm not so sure it's the best deal if you don't already own Destiny. Right now, Activision is selling Destiny: The Taken King Legendary Edition, a bundle that offers players "the complete Destiny experience." This includes the base Destiny game and both expansions, as well as the upcoming Taken King expansion — all for just $59.99. Assuming you don't own anything Destiny, this is obviously the better purchase as The Taken King alone will cost you $39.99, and that's only if you already own the previous two expansions.

Of course, it all comes down to what you own. Bungie has made the release of The Taken King incredibly complex with all the different bundles and versions they're offering. All you need to know is if you don't own Destiny, go with the Legendary Edition. If you own Destiny, but none of the expansions, you'll probably want to buy the discounted Expansion Pass. Once you own both expansions, you can purchase The Taken King as a digital download for $39.99. Whatever you choose, you're going to be paying a lot of money. That's just Activision's way.
