Gamers looking to see what all of the hype is about with Destiny can now do so, as Activision has made available a free trial/demo of Bungie’s newest MMO shooter. Regardless of whether you’re playing the Trial on PS4 or Xbox One, or the Demo on PS3 or Xbox 360, both offer a sampling of character creation and progression, story mission content, and cooperative and social activities.
So what’s the real difference between the trial and demo? Really, just the size of each download and how you would go about upgrading should you decide to purchase the full game.
On PS4 or Xbox One, you can download the 20GB Destiny Trial. You are able to upgrade to the full version via the in-game, and you will not be required to download the full retail game or purchase a retail disc-copy.
The demo is a much smaller size (6GB) on PS3 and Xbox 360. Although it’s the same content, upgrading to the full version requires you to actually purchase the game from your local retailer or online via the PlayStation Store or Xbox Store. Once you download/install and launch the full version of Destiny, and transfer your character progression, you can delete the demo file.
In both instances, your character progression will transfer within the same console family. That means you can’t transfer your progress from the Destiny demo on Xbox 360 to the full retail version on PS4 or PS3. Of course, if you own a PS4 already I don’t know why you wouldn’t just start with the trial.
Bungie didn’t specify what content will be available in the demo/trial, but I assume it’ll be similar to what was offered in the beta.
