Destiny public beta planned for summer

The beta for Destiny will arrive some time this summer, according to Activision, the game's publisher. Speaking during the company's Q4 earnings call to investors, Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg announced, "A public beta is planned for summer." Unfortunately, no other details were revealed.

Although Destiny's beta will be open to anyone who pre-orders the game, PlayStation owners will receive first access. The early access is likely part of the exclusivity agreement Sony has in place with Activision. In addition to first dibs on the beta, PS4 owners will also get "exclusive content" for the game.

As for the actual release date, Destiny is expected to launch on September 9 for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, and Xbox 360.

"We look forward to expanding this universe for years to come and you will see much more in the months ahead," Hirshberg concluded.
