Destiny restricts matchmaking for you idle jerks

In addressing some of the problems plaguing strikes and raids in Destiny, Bungie has revealed that starting this week they've restricted "a small number of the most toxic players" from matchmaking.

"Unfortunately, there are a few individuals who have put in that same level of monomaniacal effort into being jerks," said Bungie's John Hopson. "Sitting idle in Strikes and PvP has been on our radar for a while now, but it’s become clear that a small number of the worst idlers are responsible for damaging the experiences of thousands of other players."

"One player not contributing in an activity might seem like a small thing, but it can make a Weekly Heroic Strike unbeatable or make a Crucible match unwinnable. Those little bits of damage to the experiences other players adds up over time."

The restrictions puts on some players this week are temporary and apply only to activities where they were "chronically idle." Should the player persist with this type of behavior after the restriction is listed, Bungie will applie "stronger and permantent restrictions on their accounts."

Bungie made note that for most of you, this won't mean anything — except maybe playing with less idle jerks. And sure, we've all gone idle at least once while playing Destiny, but Bungie assured there's no reason to panic.

"Do not panic just because you had to put down the controller in a Strike last week when the pizza guy showed up just as your fireteam reached Valus Ta'aurc. There is no way you will accidentally be flagged under this policy unless you are a truly dedicated idler, someone who has really gone out their way to repeatedly cheat their teammates."

Looking ahead, Bungie has further plans to improve the multiplayer experience in Destiny with Update 1.1.2, as it will address Raid bugs and potential reasons why some Strikes are completed less often than others.
