Yesterday, Bungie officially revealed Destiny's next expansion, House of Wolves. Slated to release on May 19, Bungie has plans to share more detailed information about the expansion in the coming weeks; however, on the official website, the developer laid out plans for what's included. Oddly enough, there was no mention of a Raid.
Taking to the developer blog, Bungie confirmed, "House of Wolves will not have a Raid activity."
"We didn't make this decision lightly. Our team has been humbled by the reception of Raids in Destiny and we are creating a new Raid for a release later this year," the developer explained. It's not known if the Raid will be released for free.
So without a Raid, what kind of end game activity can players expect with House of Wolves? According to Bungie, the expansion will instead offer "a new three-player cooperative end game activity focused on variety, replayability and skill – a new battle Arena called The Prison of Elders."
If you're hoping for more details, you'll have to wait as Bungie plans on revealing more information about the expansion in the coming weeks. According to their calendar of events, the reveal of Prison of Elders (with live gameplay) isn't scheduled to until Wednesday, May 6th.
While the lack of a Raid might upset some of you more hardcore players, it's worth pointing out that a relatively small percentage of Destiny's player base has ever completed a Raid. Perhaps Bungie is looking to cater to a wider audience by offering a different form of end-game, one that's seemingly more accessible. That being said, I'm sure there will be some ridiculously hard difficulty to challenge some of the more advanced players.
Looking ahead, Bungie plans to offer a "walking tour" of The Reef — one of the new areas in the expansion — on Wednesday, April 22. A live discussion about the upgrade paths for your gear will also be discussed.
On Wednesday, April 29, Bungie will reveal the Trials of Osiris and its collection of end game gear.
And finally, on May 6, we'll get a look at The Prison of Elders.
