The Iron Banner is a week-long Destiny Crucible event, but unlike regular matches, players enjoy the full advantages of their equipment in competitive 6vs6 matches. Usual Destiny Crucible events adjust the effectiveness of player weapons and armor for competitive balance.
This will be the perfect time for players to level up and score some legendary loot, make sure to jump on Destiny this week to participate in the Iron Banner. This is the second Iron Banner event since the launch of the House of Wolves expansion. The previous Iron Banner event was held earlier this month, and came with a slew of changes introduced with update 1.2.0.1. The most notable addition with that update was the ability to purchase Etheric Light — the item required to ascend pre-House of Wolves legendary gear — at ranks 3 and 5 of Iron Banner reputation; but, there were a number of other changes as well.
With The Taken King due out in September, this will probably be one of the last few Iron Banner events before the next major expansion hits. It's unclear how the new expansion will impact the special Crucible event.
