In the era of technology it's hard to hide most things, especially after they have made it to the internet. It wasn't long ago when Destiny's initial expansions were leaked by gamers and now it looks like it has happened again.
An eagle-eyed NeoGaf user has spotted an official trademark for what what might be the name and logo of Destiny's next expansion. The trademark filed was for "The Taken King," and it was filed by very same attorney that filed the trademarks for Destiny's previous expansions, The Dark Below and House of Wolves.
There's talk that the logo bears resemblance to The Hive with the King possibly referring to Oryx, the father of The Dark Below's Crota.
The trademark was filed ten days ago and would have gone unnoticed… if it weren't for the pesky internet and its transparency. As Bungie hasn't commented on the trademark, nothing can be verified at this point.
Check out the logo and descriptions as they were filed:
Description of the trademark:
Downloadable video games via the internet and wireless devices; Electronic game software for cellular telephones; Electronic game software for handheld electronic devices; Electronic game software for wireless devices; Game software; Interactive game programs; Interactive video game programs; Video game software
Description of the logo:
The mark consists of the words THE TAKEN KING in CAPS in the color gray. Below the "A," "K," and "E" in the word TAKEN is a graphic image consisting of a large oxblood "V" in the form of two slightly outward curved slashes. Rising from a position approximately two-thirds up the inner sides of the large "V" is an inverted "V" with curved sides, and beneath the inverted "V" is an "X" consisting of two oxblood slashes resting half-way up the sides of the large "V," whose lines cross below the center of the inserted "V" and then point straight up.
While we speculate about the future of Destiny, Bungie is living in the now. The developer plans to unveil some new content today that's coming in Destiny's next confirmed expansion, House of Wolves. A livestream today will give us our first look at the new co-op Arena activity set in the Prison of Elders.
If the leaked trademark is legit, it's possible The Taken King could release in September as that's when a previous leak suggested new content for Destiny under name "Comet: Plague of Darkness."
