Just in time for the holidays, Bungie has launched its "Refer-a-Friend" program, a new way to welcome Kinderguardians to the universe of Destiny.
More than likely designed as a mask to encourage friends to purchase the game the game this holiday season, Refer-a-Friend looks to inspire veteran players to partner up with newcomers (referred to as "Referees").
The program comes with a quest, "A Tale of Two Guardians," that when completed by two linked players will reward both with exclusive rewards, including two unique emotes, a shader, emblem, sparrow, and sword. Only two players — one with Veteran status and another with Referee status — can be linked together.
New players may qualify for Referee status for 7 days when playing Destiny for the first time after purchase. Only those who qualify may accept a referral, and Referees may only accept a referral from a single Veteran. Veteran status is automatically granted once you log into Destiny: The Taken King for the first time. Bungie notes that if you qualify for both Veteran and Referee status, accepting a referral will have no impact on pending referrals you've sent to other players.
To access the special quest, two of you must first initiate an in-game Link through Bungie.net. Quest steps can only be completed while Linked to a player who is present in your Fireteam.
