Someone took to the E3 2015 show floor to play some of the Star Wars Battlefront multiplayer Alpha (the invite only Alpha begins this week). While playing the game they recorded their gameplay – something they weren't allowed to do, seeing as how the video has been taken down. The video has left a mark, a detailed mark…
The Alpha for Star Wars Battlefront at E3 was set in the Walker Assault game mode (there are around seven game modes that we know of) set in a limited/downsized Hoth map with objectives clearly displayed in the top middle portion of the screen. Whether it was shutting down the uplink or defending the AT-AT Walker objectives were timed and persistent.
The in-game UI has objectives centered on the top middle part of the screen, a radar map on left, and has the player's power ups laid out on the bottom right with triangle, L1, and R1 each associated with a different layout. Players choose their power up loadout before the match or after each death (along with weapons), but can pick up different power ups while running around the map.
It appears as though everyone has access to the same weapons, regardless of being on the Empire or Alliance. Jetpacks are universal as well. However, these things might be a product of the Alpha gameplay.
The weapons are broken down into ratings for Damage, Rate of Fire, Range, and Cooling Power, and the power ups are divided into Primary and Secondary choices.
Weapon Loadout:
- DLT-19 Heavyblaster
- E-11 Blaster Rifle
- A280C Blaster Rifle
- DH-17 Blaster Pistol
Hands – Power Up Loadout:
Primary:
- Barrage
- Ion Shot
- Jump Pack
Secondary:
- Thermal Detonator
- Personal Shield
- Ion Torpedo
The power ups that players come across allow players to control vehicles: AT-AT Walker, Tie-Fighter, and AT-ST.
When the AT-AT power up is used, there are two different views associated with the two different weapon options, rockets and/or turrets.
Tie-Fighter power up has two views as well, a cockpit view and third-person view of the fighter. The AT-ST power up has players walking right into combat with a third-person view and the option to get a closer scoped view of targets to shoot them down. When focused in the AT-ST the player gets stuck behind a big rock in the environment.
During gameplay, your health bar does not appear until you're wounded, but enemy health bars are clearly visible. Once killed, there is a death cam that follows the individual that killed you.
There is a very strong Battlefield feeling in the gameplay, which shouldn't come as a surprise considering that the game is being developed by the very same people that developed Battlefield 4.
