Developer re-creates scene from Half-Life 2, fully playable on Oculus Rift

You can even play it on the Oculus Rift!

Senior 3D Environment Artist, Liam Tart, might be working on an unannounced game with The Creative Assembly (the developers behind Alien: Isolation), but that doesn't mean he can't dabble with other games on the side. Tart has re-created a scene from Half-Life 2 in Unreal Engine 4 and it's fully playable. The scene even works with the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset… So you can basically live your dream of immersing yourself in a Half-Life game.

The Half-Life 2 scene was brought to life by Tart as part of a project to alter his work pattern from being "a traditional Photoshop-based texture creation process, to a fully procedural Substance material creation process." with Substance Designer and Painter.

Whether or not Tart will add on the re-created scene remains unknown, but we do know that he's no stranger to the Half-Life series. Back when Tart first got into video game development as a Level Designer, he lent his skills to The Crowbar Collective, helping develop the Half-Life mod Black Mesa. However, the mod is no longer a true mod – it's making a standalone release on Steam Early Access in the near-ish future.

You can download and play the scene here or see more of this creation here.

(Is this the closest we will get to Half-Life 3?)
