Development shifting from The Witcher 3 to Cyberpunk 2077, says CD Projekt

Since its revealing Cyberpunk 2077 back in October 2012, CD Projekt RED hasn't talked much about their intriguing sci-fi RPG. Ya know, other than the fact that it still exists and currently being overshadowed by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Aside from a brief trailer released back in January 2013, CD Projekt RED hasn't talked much about the game, but that's not stopping media from asking them about it every chance they get.

At E3 2015, IGN actually asked CD Projekt's co-founder and join CEO Marcin Iwinski about the status of Cyberpunk 2077, and he said that more developers at the studio are starting to shift over to it.

"The core team is working The Witcher 3's expansions, but more and more people are moving over onto Cyberpunk," Iwinski revealed.

When asked why Cyberpunk 2077 was announced so early, only to be put on the shelf while The Witcher 3 basks in the limelight, Iwinski explained:

"We released the Cyberpunk teaser trailer because we wanted to see how gamers felt about it. We were super excited about the project internally, but what if it wasn't the right thing [for us]? But the response has been incredible. Now it's just up to us to deliver. We're hard at work on it.

You can craft swords for 12 years, but you might get burnt out. People might want to leave and go work on something else. We're excited to switch to guns. We intended to keep [the team] energized with Cyberpunk."

Cyberpunk 2077 doesn't yet have a release date, with CD Projekt RED only saying it will release "when it's ready."
