Development update: Kingdom Hearts 3 still has “untouched” worlds; Final Fantasy 7 Remake “progressing”

Last month game director Tetsuya Nomura gave us a small update on the state of Kingdom Hearts 3's development and now he's detailed a little bit more of the game's current state, as well as the state of Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Nomura sat down for an interview in the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu and while the interview was in Japanese, Hachima Kikou and Gematsu were kind enough to offer a translation. According to Nomura, there are still worlds in Kingdom Hearts 3 that have yet to be developed.

What’s the state of Kingdom Hearts III‘s development?

“While I can’t make a sweeping statement because the development process is different from what we’ve done so far, there are still worlds untouched. Production is progressing on unannounced worlds, in a state that we cannot show them off. In terms of the state of development, there is still some way to go.”

As far as Final Fantasy 7 Remake is concerned, it's in the same boat as Kingdom Hearts 3 – we still have "longer" to go before we see the games release. However, we should be seeing progress for both games revealed during an event this year – though no event was specified.

What’s the state of Final Fantasy VII Remake‘s development?

“We’re steadily progressing on production. While we are making them, I apologize that the wait will be be a bit longer for Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy VII Remake. I am very sorry, but to that degree I will make a game that will meet your expectations.

“Last year, I didn’t put out much information on either title, but this year I want to show our progress at an event somewhere. The release of the titles themselves have still have a way to go. But there are many titles releasing this year, if you can wait for any ‘surprises.'”

Later this month, Square Enix will be holding their 30th Anniversary event (it's been drenched with rumors) – which could be the place that we hear about the games, as well as these other "surprises."
