Devil’s Third has officially shut down its multiplayer servers

Devil's Third just never stood a chance. The game is easily one of the most troubling developments I have ever seen, and its final result is unsurprising, to say the least. After originally being due for release on Xbox 360, PC, and PS3, the game awkwardly ended up as a Wii U exclusive and was a dramatic departure from anything Nintendo had put on the platform.

Tomonobu Itagaki, the famed game developer, explained that Nintendo agreed to publish Devil's Third because "they don't have enough strong online games." He added that it wasn't "a game that Nintendo could make internally, so we came in as their mercenaries to make a strong online game."

So much for being a "strong online game," as just a little over a year after releasing, Devil's Third's online servers have been shut down for good. There are rumors of a free-to-play version eventually coming to PC, but given the game's developmental struggles and super weak critical reception, IMO it'd be best if Itagaki and Valhalla Game Studios just let this one go.
