Diablo 3’s fabled Kanai’s Cube is now available in-game following the launch of patch 2.3.0.
Relative to Blizzard’s most recent forecast, the patch is actually early. The studio said 2.3 would hit after the current PC season ended today, August 25, but before the next season began August 28. Evidently, they meant immediately after.
Kanai’s Cube is the patch’s headlining act; it introduces a wealth of new features and quality of life improvements. Crafting and adjusting Legendaries has been blown open by the ability to upgrade Rare items to Legendary-tier, convert Set items into other pieces of the same set, and reset a Legendary item’s affixes.
Even so, Legendary Extraction is the Cube’s most impactful ability. It allows players to equip Legendary abilities without wearing the item itself. One weapon, armor and jewelry ability may be equipped at a time. Items that have their abilities extracted are destroyed in the process. Dozens of new items, including seasonal pieces, are also included in the update. Blizzard is currently deliberating over whether to bring Diablo 3’s seasons to PS4 and Xbox One. Console seasons have remained a frequent community request, so the studio is revisiting the possibility. Still, they remain tight-lipped, as they’ve stayed regarding the rumored development of a new Diablo 3 expansion.
