Video Game studios have big years and neutral years. Sometimes they even have bad years, but that isn't the case here. Last year, Blizzard made a number of big announcements at BlizzCon, but not every year can be so spectacular.
With the span of time since Diablo 3's launch, typical game development cycles would suggest that a sequel should be on the way, but unfortunately, it's been confirmed not to be the case. Diablo may appear at BlizzCon, but it's not bringing any announcements with it.
Community manager Brandy Camel confirmed this in a statement on the official Blizzard forums. "This year, we want to give you a heads-up that while Diablo will be on the show floor, we won’t be making any new Diablo announcements,” Camel said. “There will be a time for that at some point in the future, but that time is not now."
Mild disappointment aside, BlizzCon is always a fun time, and Diablo 3 not receiving an announcement leaves room for announcements for other Blizzard IPs. Plus, Camel confirmed that there is something they're working on, but it won't be ready for reveal at BlizzCon. What do you expect to hear from BlizzCon 2017?
