DICE: “No Game Planned for Wii U Yet”

When the Wii U was announced at E3 a few months ago, EA was one of the companies offering its full support to the platform. Not only was it indicated that a Battlefield game could possibly land on the console, but EA CEO John Riccitielo publicly stated that he was looking forward to seeing what the company could do on the Wii U. In an interview with Metro, DICE's Patrick Liu stated that there are currently no games planned for the Wii U.

The Battlefield 3 producer stated that DICE isn't ruling out the possibility for Wii U games down the road, but currently, no titles have been planned within the studio. Liu did mention that EA has Wii U dev kits, which have allowed the company to "dabble" with the system's technology a bit. As far as games go, however, the producer reiterated that nothing is set in stone just yet.

When asked if a Battlefield 3 port would land on the Wii U, Liu indicated that it was a possibility, but DICE needs to really make sure to use the technology to its fullest potential. "I'm a big fan of Nintendo myself, looking at what they've done with the Wii and Wii U … but we have to come up with something that really uses their controls," he explained. "And until we get that bright idea of what to do with the new controls, I don't think there's any point in making another version that's just the same as everyone else."

It's interesting to see what EA's stance is on the Wii U considering it seemed as though the company was really behind the system early on. Perhaps all of the rumors buzzing about the console's issues have put off the publisher and developer. We're bound to learn more about EA's stance on the Wii U as Nintendo gets closer to completing the machine's development.

Oh, and in case you're wondering, Mirror's Edge isn't dead, but there's nothing planned.
