Star Wars: Battlefront II is on its way, and in anticipation, DICE producer Craig McLeod talked the original game in a video released by PlayStation. Specifically, he spoke about why DICE's original Battlefront ran into issues and how the sequel aims to rectify them.
Essentially, the feedback from fans on the original was the lack of debth that many Star Wars fans were looking for. According to McLeon, a common piece of feedback was, "We want more breadth." Also according to McLeod, they are hoping to deliver that.
"A lot of people found that with the original Battlefront, after a few months of play, they lacked the long-term goals," he explained. "So these are the things that we are really trying to make sure we nail in this new game."
The new title will feature more eras of Star Wars, while the original only had characters from the original trilogy. There will also be a more in-depth progression system to encourage players to play more long term.
This is all aside to their promise of a single-player campaign. The original lacked a story at all, but the sequel has a campaign coming from EA's Motive Studios. The story follows a new character, Iden Versio, a member of the Empire.
What the story will hold is still somewhat of a mystery, but we've seen some teases of it lately. Lastly, DICE has said that space combat for Star Wars: Battlefront II will be revealed at Gamescom later this month.
