DICE’s next Battlefield to offer ‘Never-before-seen scale’, Out Holiday 2021

Combat on a scale hitherto unheard of. Yes, I said it.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson confirms that the next Battlefield title will launch next year. Holiday 2021 to be precise. The news comes from Electronic Arts’ recent financial report. But there’s more reason to be excited.

The Battlefield franchise is a real juggernaut in the online first-person genre. Gamers enjoy DICE’s ingenious combined arms gameplay for almost 20 years now. Just like every other series there have been ups and downs though.

The most recent one, Battlefield V, failed to achieve the expected success by EA. And that’s despite the game returning to the series’ roots of the World War II setting. Not only that, but BFV also introduced battle royale for the first time.

We have hands-on play testing underway internally, and the team’s been getting very positive feedback on the game – EA CEO Andrew Wilson

Now that both World Wars and the modern military setting were explored, it’ll be interesting to see what setting the upcoming Battlefield chooses. We don’t learn that in the financial report sadly, but what we do is that the new entry will offer combat on a scale  never-before-seen.

A bold claim indeed, especially when we’re talking about the Battlefield franchise. A series that always reigned supreme with massive levels and the adequate means to fight in.

As a Battlefield veteran, it’d be a lie if I said I don’t want a modern re-envisioning of BF 2142. The 2006 entry is the most unique BF game, bar none. It’s the only entry set in the future, too. Not only that, but it also offered awesome game modes. Titan matches are still the stuff of legends to this day.

But alas, we’ll have to wait a little longer to get concrete details. Thankfully, EA CEO Andrew Wilson confirms that more news will be shared next spring.
