Did you play the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft? The Xbox One version will only cost you $5

A popular question amongst Xbox One owners who played Minecraft on their Xbox 360 would be how much they'd have to pay for the same game on a different platform. We've known that it'll be $5 to upgrade, but we now know some more details.

If you ever played the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft, the Xbox One version will cost you just $5.

"But wait, Jake. We already knew that!" Ah, this is true to a certain extent, but allow me to explain. If you ever played the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft in any way, shape, or form, the Xbox One version will cost $5. Period. Even if you didn't own it.

Here's an explanation from Daniel Kapan and Owen Hill of Mojang:

If you've got it on disc you can transfer [information from previous games] as long as you've played it online, basically.

You need to have had your 360 connected to the web. You don't need a Gold account, we just need to see that this user has been playing Minecraft.

As long as Xbox Live has said you've played Minecraft, you can upgrade for $5. Hill mentions that he believes people will take advantage of this, but doesn't seem terribly worried by the notion of it.

I assume that people who upgrade from the PlayStation 3 to the PlayStation 4 will have the same ability.
