Prior to the release of Mad Max: Fury Road, Mad Max actor Tom Hardy revealed that he had signed on to make three movies in the series. According to Hardy, whether or not the trilogy was made depended on the film's sales.
Mad Max: Fury Road turned out to be a summer blockbuster, which immediately sparked rumors of a sequel. Apparently, director George Miller isn't excited at the prospect of filming any more films in the Mad Max universe. He's so dissatisfied with the entire filming process for the film, that he won't be making them any more.
“I won’t make more ‘Mad Max’ movies. ‘Fury Road’ with Charlize Theron, Zoë Kravitz, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Riley Keough was forever getting completed. If you finish one in a year, it’s considered a leap of faith. Start, stop, start again,” said the director to the New York Post’s Page Six column .
“I’ve shot in Australia in a field of wildflowers and flat red earth when it rained heavily forever. We had to wait 18 months and every return to the US was 27 hours. Those Mad Maxes take forever. I won’t do those any more.”
With Mad Max: Fury Road being such a success, it's hard to believe that the studio will let the series gather dust somewhere. If Miller isn't convinced to direct a sequel, the studio will more than likely move on to another director.
