Director of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Slams GT Sport For Online-Only Progression Limitations

Sometimes, developers criticize each other in vague comments. Sometimes, it’s a bit more direct. This time, Naughty Dog’s Kurt Margenau (Co-Lead Designer of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Game Director of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy) side-eyed GT Sport pretty directly.

GT Sport recently added single-player mode, but even with that, the game can only be saved while connected to the game’s servers. Margenau’s grievance is that the game’s required servers are, yet again, down. “Whose idea was this?” He asked in a tweet, making a few jokes at their expense. In one tweet, he calls GT Sport a “photo car shoot simulator.”

Criticism in the industry isn’t entirely new, but considering that Uncharted and GT Sport share overall bosses, this criticism comes across pretty surprising. Polyphony Digital hasn’t said anything in response (which on the other hand, isn’t surprising) However, no ETA has been provided regarding a fix to the issue, except for the following on their official website:

“Currently we are experiencing an unstable connection from the Gran Turismo Sport servers to the PlayStation Network servers.
Because of this, an error message is displayed notifying that the game cannot connect to the network.
For the time being, we have found that in some cases it is still possible to bypass the issue and connect to the server by ignoring the correction error messages and going to the top screen, then trying to manually “Reconnect to the Network” a few times.
Please wait while we investigate the cause of this issue together with the PlayStation Network. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our users.”

As of posting this article, however, Margenau’s tweets have been taken down.
