Disc-free Netflix Coming to PS3 Next Week

Soon, PS3 owners will be able to toss those Netflix discs in the trash. According to the Playstation Blog, starting on Monday, October 18, Netflix users will be able to download an application that allows them to stream movies and TV shows on the console without the use of an instant streaming disc.

Some movies and shows will be available in 1080p high definition and Dolby 5.1 surround sound, and will even have subtitles. The Netflix app will also feature a new user interface that will allow content search directly on the console and faster playback.

This will bring the PS3 version of Netflix up to speed with the Xbox 360, which already has a disc-free app, and will offer content searching in the next major update.
