During a time when many publishers are afraid to take risks on new IPs, Bethesda is basking in the success Dishonored. The recently-released stealth/assassin game is out-performing Bethesda's expectations, the publisher has confirmed, solidifying its place in Bethesda's already-impressive list of franchises.
Speaking to Destructoid, Bethesda's VP of PR and Marketing Pete Hines said that "Dishonored is far exceeding our sales expectations, which is especially cool considering it's a new IP facing a host of well-established franchises this quarter."
"We did terrific numbers again this past weekend, both in stores and on Steam, where Dishonored was listed as the number one selling title over the holiday weekend. And Dishonored has really sold well overseas. So, we’re very pleased and appreciate all the fans that have supported Dishonored and Arkane."
Hines concluded: "We clearly have a new franchise.”
But will the concept of a new franchise translate into a sequel for the game? Although co-creator Raf Colantonio and the team is "open" to the idea, fellow co-director Harvey Smith hasn't expressed the same interest.
