Disney announces Frozen 2

Get ready to return to Arendelle

Get ready for the first big shocker of 2015 — Frozen 2 has officially been announced by Disney. I know, so surprising, right?

Speaking at Disney's Annual Shareholders meeting today, The Walt Disney Company Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger, along with John Lasseter, chief creative officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios,  confirmed that a Frozen sequel is currently in the works at Walt Disney Animation Studios with the first film's directors, Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, and producer Peter Del Vecho all returning.

Production details and a release date have yet to be announced, but it's never too early to build the hype — especially with a juggernaut like Frozen. Released in 2013, Frozen became an instant hit with its charming characters and addictive soundtrack. The film generated nearly $1.3 billion at the box office and has sold millions (or billions) more in merchandising. Since its release it has become a staple at Disney's theme parks as well.

While we don't yet have a release date for Frozen 2, fans won't have to wait long to see Elsa and company return to the big screen. A Frozen short, titled "Frozen Fever," is set to play before Disney's live-action adaptation of "Cinderella," out in theaters this weekend.

“We enjoyed making ‘Frozen Fever’ so much and being back in that world with those characters,” Lasseter said. “Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have come up with a great idea for a sequel and you will be hearing a lot more about it and we’re taking you back to Arendelle. We are so excited about that.”

Cue the "Frozen sucks" and "I'm so tired of Frozen" complaints now. Let it go haters.

In addition to Frozen 2, Disney also announced the release dates for two more Star Wars films: Episode VIII and a spinoff by the name "Rogue One."
