We're not in Kansas anymore. Okay, so that's the cheesiest way I could start anything that has to do with The Wizard of Oz, but I hate using backspace — so there it is. Over the past year, Snow White has been a big hit. Hollywood finds something and makes as many competing movies as they can about it. Next up is The Wizard of Oz property. There's three Wizard of Oz movies in the works. One is a computer-animated movie starring the voice of Lea Michele as the voice of Dorothy in Dorothy of Oz. Another is a stop-motion movie that I have no details about, but it's from one of the guys that made Corpse Bride. The last is Disney's movie — Oz: The Great and Powerful. From the just-released poster, it looks like Disney's take on this tale is going to be the best of the three.
Oz: The Great and Powerful tells the story of how Oz, known as Oscar, finds himself away from Kansas and over the rainbow. James Franco is playing the hot air balloon-riding Oz, and the film also stars Zach Braff, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz and Mila Kunis.
It is being directed by Sam Rami, who directed Spider-Man, Spider-man 2, and Spider-man 3. While I love everything about the poster, I have a hard time reading "visionary director of the Spider-man trilogy." Rami's vision led to an awful Spider-Man 3. But I have nothing but faith in Disney and this cast.
What about you — does this poster make you want to follow the yellow brick road?
