Disney’s ‘The Jungle Book’ debut footage shown at D23 Expo

With all the Star Wars news coming from the D23 Expo, Disney didn’t forget to mention some of their other huge upcoming projects. When Sean Bailey, president of production for Disney, took the stage, he debut our first glimpse of the “Jungle Book”.

The first look of footage from the film showed us Bill Murray’s take on Baloo the Bear. The crowd of 7,500 people went absolute bananas once Baloo started humming one of his most iconic songs, “Bear Necessities.”

Director, Jon Favreau, then took the D23 stage and talked about the unique production process on the remake of the 1967 film, saying the 21st century version was first animated and then shot in live action, before the two versions were melded together, Bailey stated that the film “one of the most technologically advanced movies ever made.”

Murray couldn’t be present at D23, but Neel Sethi, the new live-action version of Mowgli, was and he had a couple of things to tell the crowd. Sethi started off by saying how he never been to Disneyland or D23 Expo. “It was just, like, so fun, so overwhelming, I can’t even talk about it, it was so, like, crazy.” Also appearing on stage with Favreau and Bailey were Ben Kingsley, who plays Begeera and Lupita Nyong’o, who is mother wolf Raksha.
Each of the speakers know how important this remake is going to be. The original film which was based on Rudyard Kipling’s book first hit theaters way back it 1967, making it one of Disneys oldest classics. “We know what we are taking on when we take on these well-known and well-loved stories,” said Bailey. “We don’t take this responsibility lightly.”

The Jungle Book is scheduled to hit theaters on April 15, 2016.
