Disney TV Boss is hopeful for a live action Star Wars series at some point

Is there....a new hope...for a Star Wars live action series?

Disney TV Boss is hopeful for a live action Star Wars series at some point

Disney is just getting started with its inevitable and (likely) relentless assault of Star Wars content. However, one thing that it currently doesn't have on its plate is a live action TV series. Sure, Star Wars: Rebels is doing well over on Disney XD and The Clone Wars proved to be very successful before that. Lucasfilm had been discussing the possibility for a live action series before being bought out by The Mouse, and any plans for such a series had been shelved in favor of the upcoming slate of movies as well as Rebels.

Disney/ABC broadcast and entertainment boss, Ben Sherwood sat down with The Hollywood Reporter and was asked about the possibility of a live action series. He said:

"The live-action Star Wars plan rests in the hands of [Walt Disney Studios chairman] Alan Horn, [Lucasfilm president] Kathy Kennedy and the great folks at Lucasfilm. Somewhere we hope in a galaxy not too far away there will be a television show that will air on one of our networks. But I wouldn't get anybody's hopes up too high. They have a lot of movies to make between now and then. We are deep into a very productive relationship with Lucasfilm making [Disney XD's] Star Wars Rebels. And we are in ongoing conversations with them on what is the next Star Wars animated show."

As you can see, there's nothing in the works, or even planned in the short term. Disney is clearly focused on their current strategy of delivering the current slate of movies in tandem with an animated TV series, but that's not to say that there couldn't be anything looming beyond 2020 after the Boba Fett solo film releases.
