Do-over: Contest for PS4 Anniversary Edition restarts after Sony erases winners

Everyone that won a PlayStation 4 Anniversary Edition is no longer a winner, as Sony "accidently" deleted the entire list of winners in a recently-held contest in Japan.

You'd think that a company that has been developing computers, gaming consoles, DVD, and basically everything that has to do with technology would have some sort of fail-safe plan, but apparently retrieving the data isn't be as easy as flipping a switch. The deleted data has been deemed "impossible" to retrieve, but Sony assured that no personal information was leaked in the process of deletion.

I'm imagining Sony as an old person attempt to make the magic box work.

The contest had been running between December and January and was available to customers in Japan who bought a PS TV, Vita, PS3 or PS4. The customers that bought those Sony products were eligible to receive a calender with a unique code. The code would then be submitted by the customer and they would in turn be put in the contest to win a 20th Anniversary PS4.

More importantly:

The 20th Anniversary PS4 looks awesome. It's the same color as the original PlaySation and the DualShock 4 is the same grey with the original PlayStation logo. It's kind of lame that the rest of the world can't get in on this contest.

After "deeply" apologizing for the mishap, Sony is asking everyone that had previously applied to win a console, apply again. I wonder if those same codes will win?
