There's some bad news for Doctor Who fans, the BBC has confirmed that Season 10 has been delayed until next year. The reason for the delay is that the long-time writer and showrunner for the series, Steven Moffat, has stepped down from his position, leaving writer Chris Chibnall to take his place.
In 2004, Moffat officially began working on Season 5 of Doctor, writing the two-part story "The Empty Child"/"The Doctor Dances" in 2005, "The Girl in the Fireplace" in the 2006 series and "Blink" in the 2007 series. Later on in 2010, the BBC appointed Moffat as the executive producer for the show.
According to a press release and statement from Moffat hris Chibnall, writer of Doctor Who episodes “42”, “The Hungry Earth” / “Cold Blood”, “Dinosaurs on a Spaceship” and “The Power of Three”, will take over with Series 11 in 2018 — making Season 10 the last season that Moffat will produce and write.
Moffat offered a brief comment on passing the reigns:
"Feels odd to be talking about leaving when I’m just starting work on the scripts for season 10, but the fact is my timey-wimey is running out. While Chris is doing his last run of Broadchurch, I’ll be finishing up on the best job in the universe and keeping the TARDIS warm for him. It took a lot of gin and tonic to talk him into this, but I am beyond delighted that one of the true stars of British Television drama will be taking the Time Lord even further into the future. At the start of season 11, Chris Chibnall will become the new showrunner of Doctor Who. And I will be thrown in a skip.”
We will have to do plenty of waiting before we get to see what Season 11 will be like.
