Don’t be fooled by the leaked GTA 5 release date

It's come to my attention that a leaked release date for Rockstar's highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 5 is making its rounds across the internet. The rumor stems from German retailer Saturn (via) who originally posted a release date of March 15, 2013, along with a pre-order incentive that included free posters to those who purchase the game prior to its release.

I can't say this with 100% certainty, but odds are that isn't the exact release date — though it could very well be in the game's release window. What I can say with certainty, however, is that retailers often put placeholder dates for big titles, which is likely what happened in this case. Saturn has since removed its date and replaced it with a more generic "December 31, 2013" date. I'm sure there will still be some that try to look further into this and wonder why they so quickly removed the original date, but I wouldn't even waste my time.

Outside of Rockstar Games and parent-company Take-Two, there are very few who know the exact release date of Grand Theft Auto 5. A lot of times people are fooled into thinking retailers know the date when they post these placeholders, but that just isn't the case. In fact, this same thing is true for many other upcoming titles that have placeholders on these retailer websites.

The only thing we know for sure is what Rockstar tells us, and that is that GTA 5 weill release sometime in spring 2013 for Xbox 360 and PS3. Everything else is just speculation, nothing more.
